I want to Migrate vSAN Cluster(several VMs) on VMware to Hyper-V using SCVMM.

The official website says, [Converting VMware VMs in vSAN configuration to Hyper-V isn't supported through SCVMM]. I guess the reason is VMs in vSAN configuration have multiple vmdk files spread in different EXSi host.

If the multiple vmdk files can converge to one file, can i use SCVMM to Converting VMware VMs in vSAN configuration to Hyper-V?

https://learn.microsoft.com/ja-jp/system-center/vmm/vm-convert-vmware?view=sc-vmm-2022

※It would be helpful if you could tell me, some other solution to Converting VMware VMs in vSAN configuration to Hyper-V.

Thank you !

    Hi Anjie,

    Hope you're doing well.

Converting VMware VMs in vSAN configuration to Hyper-V using SCVMM is not supported directly due to the complexity of vSAN configurations and the distributed nature of vSAN storage across multiple ESXi hosts. The process involves converting multiple VMDK files into a single virtual hard disk (VHDX) file, which isn't natively supported by SCVMM.

However, there are alternative methods to achieve this migration:

You can use third-party tools like VMware vCenter Converter or Microsoft Virtual Machine Converter (MVMC) to perform the conversion from VMware to Hyper-V.

    Best Regards,

    Hey,

As mentioned, you can use alternative methods to convert the VMs. StarWind V2V converter can be used to move VMs directly from VMware to Hyper-V. It also supports conversion with synchronization, which minimizes downtime. https://www.starwindsoftware.com/starwind-v2v-converter

In addition, you can use StarWind VSAN with Hyper-V to create replicated shared storage for Failover cluster. Might be helpful: https://www.starwindsoftware.com/resource-library/starwind-virtual-san-for-hyper-v-2-node-hyperconverged-scenario-with-windows-server-2016/
