  • How do these compare to the out of box templates included with SCCM?
    1 Posts | Last post April 13, 2017
    • I know that SCCM CB includes quite a few templates, 4 of which are 'current' and the rest are classified as 'archive'. Many of the archive templates cover the same use cases as these templates do. What are the improvements in these templates vs those included out of box?

    • I have just looked at the XML entries for the SQL server exclusions. There is no entry for:
      %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Binn\SQLServr.exe
This is a requirement for SQL 2012 exclusions. I am guessing these have not been updated as new server revisions are released?
    • Hello!
You can find all informations about SQL versions here :
You just have to modify, add, or delete entries depending on deployed versions.
      For example :
      SQL 2008 10
      SQL 2008R2 10.50
      SQL 2012 11
      SQL 2014 12
  • Exclusion Policy for Exchnage 2013
    2 Posts | Last post February 03, 2016
    • Hello Mathias,
Good job. I want to ask if the exchange and the SQL template work for Exchange 2013 and SQL Server 2012 respectively?
In a situation where we have the database and logs on different drives from c:, do I need to specify this drives in the exclusion list?
    • Hello,
I confirm that templates work for Exchange 2013 and SQL Server 2012.
If your databases and logs are on different drives, you just have to import policy templates then modify them.
After that, you can modify a policy by editing exclusion parameters.
You either create and define environment variable ( or you define the full path:
      %MySqlDriveVar%\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.14\MSSQL\Data\*.mdf
      S:\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.14\MSSQL\Data\*.mdf

Is there a template available for Lync 2013? I found a link to a Technet article with all exclusions (, but a template is so much easier to use.

    • Are there any significant differences between the policy templates for different versions of the software? For example, the Exchange template was written for Exchange 2010. Will it still work on 2013, or do changes have to be made? Likewise for SharePoint and Data Protection Manager.
    • Hello,
Yes there are regularly new exclusions to be implemented for new product releases.
I regularly evolve these strategies by merging the exclusions product versions.
I've already intergate update exclusions for Exchange 2013 ( and no changes have been announced for exclusions in DPM 2012 that differ from 2010 (
