Purpose: This document is purely to test and understand about hybrid migration between On Premise Exchange and Office 365 along with single sign on testing for the migrated users through ADFS. 

 

Description: We can make use of this document to create your own On premise exchange setup in Microsoft Azure to test the hybrid migration from Exchange On Premise to Microsoft Office 365. I have also included every steps required to configure the single sign for the Migrated users through ADFS and ADFS Proxy server as well. The reason I have hosted my On-premise environment in the Microsoft Azure is because I don’t have enough hardware resources to host my on premise environment. In addition to that Microsoft Azure assigns dynamic public ip address for every virtual machines and also we do have the feasibility to convert the dynamically assigned public ip address to static public ip address for the virtual machines. Then in Microsoft Azure, NSG (Network Security Group) is the best replacement for on premise firewall. I have made the necessary changes in the NSG to have the back and forth communication between Exchange On Premise and Office 365 environment.

 

Environment Description: The reason I splitted the machines across multiple regions/Locations as because Microsoft Azure has not allowed me to create more than 4 VCPU’s in single region. Hence I have placed the ADFS proxy server in the different region (Japan East) which has separate address space, subnet, Vnet, RG and NSG.

Exchange On-premise version which I used for this testing is Exchange 2013 CU21.
