Microsoft Message Analyser Custom RTP config file for Lync and Skype Codecs

This custom RTP.opn file will show all Lync, Skype for Business & Skype codecs correctly in Microsoft Message Analyser instead of showing the default Dynamic value that is displayed whenever it does not understand the real codec.

    • Dear Johan,
Can you please help me with finding the way to take such parameters as packet loss, bitrate and other parameters as in call technical info window in simple skype. Or maybe you have some new information about QoS parameters with skype for business.
I will be very thankful for any information.
      Kind regards,

    • Dear Johan,
thank you very much for providing this very helpful OPN. Would you please be so kind and change the typo "Confort Noise" inside the RTP.opn file to the more RFC 3389 conform version "Comfort Noise"?
Thank you so much in advance.
      Best regards,

    • Hi Johan,
I do like the dissection offered by James Cussen's Wireshark dissector (, which does at least tells us what CODEC's are used on the Client to Edge. I note that you previous answer in 2015 says that this cannot be achieved in Message Analyser, but was wondering if there has been any movement here. The Wireshark dissector is able to decode both UDP and TCP RTP information.
    • Unfortunately I just tweaked one OPN files, included the missing codecs for Skype for Business. I did not write an entire module or anything like that, so I am not rewriting the functionality of the Message Analyzer.  If you want to see all glory details then you will need to use the Wireshark version you mention.

    • Is possible to filter RTP over TCP?
I need to see RTP between Front End and Gateway.
  • Not decoding with EDGE calls

    • It works while the call is inside the LAN,
but when it goes throw the EDGE server, I only capture as UDP.
      anything that I'm doing wrong?
    • Hi,
Unfortunately Message Analyzer does not decode calls via EDGE to RTP but displays them as UDP only. Because of this behavior I can also not display the right codecs.
You will have to use other mechanisms for decoding the EDGE Streams, you will find more info on my talk during Ignite on SIP and Media in Lync/Skype for Business
