Force Install Updates on Remote Computer

This powershell script will give you the ability to install windows updates on a remote computer. The script will remotely create a scheduled task on the given computer with the needed powershell cmdlets to: 1. Search for updates 2. Download updates 3. Install updates

      .\ForceInstallUpdatesRemote.ps1 -computer tgkw004 -user mydomain\administrator -password xxxxxxx

      No output

      The updates never get installed
I checked computer manager looked at scheduled tasks and the task was never created.

Any debugging or ideas to try

      Thank you

    • I'm sorry, this is an embarrassing question, but just how do I actually run this script?

I see that the zip file contains a function, so how do I install this so that I can then run the command to invoke the function?
    • OK I figured it out.

      Start the Windows PowerShell ISE.

Execute the function part of the zip file (copy and paste into the ISE window)

Then without closing ISE, you can execute the function from the ISE command line

    • Updates are there on the Servers Via WSUS Downstream server but want a commmand to install the update only which currently we performed manually. like control panel and then Windows updated and Installed. so we want to avoid this.

    • What would a good way to test the success of this script be? Since it's creating a scheduled task, if we want to be sure that the scheduled task itself completes, and updates the number of expected updates?

Would we need to extract the status from the scheduled task job?

    • Hi ,

Thanks for sharing , I had some issues with Scheduled Job not executing due to permission On Windows Server 2008 R2 .

Log on as a batch job Policy , your account has to be added in that Policy .

Just wanted to share if someone will have similar issues .

      Regards

    • How can you run this script against an array of hostnames (i.e. ComputerList.txt)?
    • Hi,

It's a function so you can use it with the Get-Content cmdlet.
      Something like (untested):

      Get-Content ComputerList.txt | Foreach-Object {InstallUpdates -computername $_ -user $User - Password $password}
