Registry keys to reenable Flash, Silverlight, and Shockwave in Office 2016

For security reasons new builds of Microsoft Office for Office 365 on Windows block activation of Flash, Silverlight, and Shockwave controls. You can unblock one or more of these controls by using the registry keys in the attached zip package.

    • This seems really dumb. I've been trying to get powerview in excel to work for like 2 hours. The link in Excel cant be copied and pasted so I had to type out this whole URL.

Either fix the security issues or get powerview to work using a different engine. Power BI works just fine. You can't tell me you can't just use whatever is powering that to work in Excel too.

Sometimes it feels like Mircosoft doesn't want people to use their products. This is why people get macs and linux. IT JUST WORKS! Why can't windows just work?
  • I have tried following these steps to add these keys...

    • ...but PowerView STILL doesn't load.

After spending an entire day and 3 hours on the phone with Microsoft support (4 different people!!!), I STILL cannot get PowerView to work. Here's what I've tried so far:
      Repairing Office 365
      Uninstalling Office 365
Installing Office 2016 standalone older version
Applying the fixes in this article - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2805999/com-add-ins-are-not-displayed-in-the-com-add-ins-dialog-box-in-excel-2
Enabling the 'Enabling the Data Analysis Add-Ins in the File > Options > Data dialog box
Checking the COM Add-ins PowerPivot, PowerMap add-ins (no PowerView)
Configuring the PowerView command button on the Ribbon
PLEASE help me. I'm delivering training on Monday and I MUST have this working ASAP! It was working briefly at the beginning of the week, but it seems an update broke this feature and I've been fighting with it ever since.
Thanks in advance. I will be forever grateful. I've been tearing my hair out. I might even end up bald at this rate! LOL!

    • Any luck SparQ?? I am having the same issues and have tried all the troubleshoots you have!
    • Hi... it seems you are having a problem I was. PowerView not showing up in the available add-ins (after going to options->add-ins-> manage COM add-ins)

I had the similar problem and solved it.

    • Hi,
Thank you for this solution; it was really helpful. After installing these registry entries, the flash did start playing, though it asks for a confirmation each time I open the ppt. However, for linked ppts, such confirmation dialog is not shown and thus flash does not play. Can you please suggest a solution around this?

      Thanks

    • Hello,

Running Windows 10 and Office 365. When clicking to download, a pop for agreement use shows up, but never actually downloads anything. Am I doing something wrong?
