  • xWebAppPool is not recognized as the name of a Resource
    2 Posts | Last post July 02, 2015
    • Hi All, I'm having an issue using the xWebAppPool resource. When I run get-DscResource I can see it in the list but when I try to use it I get the following error message:
      CheckResourceFound : The term 'xWebAppPool' is not recognized as the name of a Resource.

      Does anyone know what would cause this?

      Thanks a lot.
    • For me the issue was another Import-DSCResource command. I had the "Import-DSCResource -Module xWebAdministration" and "Import-DSCResource -Name cScriptWithParams". I guess having these two different import types conflicted with each other. When I changed the -Name to -Module, it resolved itself.
  • Missing parts of xWebAdministration
    2 Posts | Last post April 02, 2015
    • Hello,

      The Dec 17 build (v1.3.2.3) of the zip file is missing all but 2 of the resources within xWebAdministration. Only xWebApplication and xWebVirtualDirectory are included. The previous release V1.3.2 had 7 resources. Am I supposed to manually merge this release with the previous release in order to have all resources available?

      Thanks, Jeremy
    • As of xWebAdministration 1.3.2.4, all missing files should be back in all TechNet zip files. Sorry for the confusion and the delay.

    • Hi,

      Does anyone know if you can do redirects with xWebAdministration?
      If not, does anyone know if this is coming?

      Thanks
    • Hi kirkbrady -
      That is not something that is currently in the resource, or in plan for the next couple of reskits. Please feel free to take the existing code and extend it, just follow the rules listed above around naming.
  • Included in WMF 5.0?
    2 Posts | Last post October 24, 2014
    • Just wondering if this resource kit will be included "out of the box" with WMF 5.0? Or will it still be a separate download? Or perhaps it will not be included, but easily installable using the new central powershell module repo coming with WMF 5.0?
    • All of these resources are already available via PSGet, which I believe is the module repo you were mentioned. If you have the current WMF5 installed, you can try "Find-module x*", and see what is posted.
      As far as including things in Windows - which is what WMF represents - it would be interesting to know when & why that is important.
  • Quick Feedback

    • Having IIS features fully available to DSC would be great. This experiment resource is a good start but most IIS setups need to do more than just create websites and application pools.

      For example:
      * Remove websites
      * Set advanced application pool settings
      * Configure logging
      * Set headers, remove headers

      Currently I would end up putting a lot of logic in a Script resource which is harder to maintain than a plain Powershell script using the WebAdministration module.
  • Logging Request
    1 Posts | Last post October 09, 2014
    • Perhaps I'm missing how to do this, I have a large number of IIS servers and would like to create a DSC that defines how each site does logging. I would like to have more or less the same amount of customization that is available via the GUI.

      If there is a way to do this with this kit, I would appreciate someone showing me how. If there isn't a way to do this, I would humbly request this feature get added in.

      My specific scenario is around the IIS log collection that is currently available in the Advisor Preview. The recommendation is to have IIS logs roll every hour to reduce the impact of log collection on the agent, management server and the cloud.

  • Feature Request: Support SslFlags on website bindings
    1 Posts | Last post October 02, 2014
    • In order to configure multiple sites to use the same IP/Port for SSL connections, and use the different certificates, it's required that the bindings have the SslFlag set to 1 (This corresponds to setting the "Require Server Name Indication" in IIS Manager). I'd like to request that you add the SslFlags to the BindingInfo section of the xWebsite resource.
  • Why limit to websites only?
    2 Posts | Last post September 03, 2014
    • I want to configure IIS at server level but this resource is designed for websites only.
      My suggestion is to start with:
      removing parameterset for configsection. this way I can provide any filter.
      workaround for a specific properties like metadata
      support commands like
      Clear-WebConfiguration -Filter //defaultDocument/files
    • Also specify different key than websitepath(aka PSPath) and configsection. This requires complications at XPath level.

      I'm talking about xWebConfigKeyValue resource of course.
